Tunnel Drive Trail

3.9-mile out-and-back

Family-friendly & leashed dogs welcomeTunnel Drive Trail - Canon City Real Estate

This easy trail along an old railroad bed welcomes hikers, bikers, and horseback riders year-round. It’s usually busy, yet is still an excellent path for birding or strolling along with views of the river as well as the gorgeous pink and white granite walls. This picturesque and pleasant trail along the Arkansas River doesn’t offer much shade other than the rock tunnels, so be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen! Access the trailhead by taking US-50 W/Royal Gorge Blvd and turning left onto Tunnel Drive. Turn right to stay on Tunnel Drive and the trailhead will be directly on your left.

Temple Canyon Park

1.6-mile out-and-back Temple Trail

3.6-mile Redemption Trail

12.2-mile out-and-back Tanner Trail

Temple & Redemption are family-friendly, while all welcome leashed dogs

Temple Canyon Park is just south of Cañon City and has a little something for everyone, with plenty of hikes near three campgrounds.

TEMPLE TRAIL starts at the Temple Ridge Picnic & Camping Area. It is moderate to strenuous for such a short trail. You’ll descend quickly, have to (possibly) wade through Grape Creek, and scramble over some rocks—but the natural amphitheatre is well worth it! Take a look at the AllTrails listing before you go.

REDEMPTION TRAIL is an easy jaunt with some great views. Watch out for cacti and snakes, and make sure to bring water and a hat! Start at the Temple Canyon Trailhead. If you’d like to turn it into a longer (5.2-mile lollipop loop), more challenging hike, take a right to follow the Shiv Trail, and then a left to Hard Time, which will loop back to Redemption.Tanner Trail - Canon City Real Estate

TANNER TRAIL is rated as a challenging hike with scenic views, especially of Pike’s Peak and the Sangre de Cristos. This is going to be a burner, with almost 4,000 feet of elevation gain on your way to Tanner Peak, so be prepared. Start at the Tanner Trailhead
