Day Hikes Near Westcliffe, Colorado

Southern Colorado is gorgeous, and there’s so much to do and see near Westcliffe. If you love to hike, you’re in luck. Westcliffe provides plenty of day hikes close by. Here are some easy and challenging adventures to get you started. Get outside! 

Willow Lake

There are a few Willow Lake hikes that you can take. Hikes vary from a 4.3 mile hike to 10-mile hike in the Rio Grande National Forest. You’ll find moderate grades and well-maintained trails. 

Humboldt Peak Trail 

Humboldt Peak Trail is a 10.7 mile heavily-trafficked out and back trail that is a challenging 14-er. It’s a scenic, difficult trail that features a river, according to AllTrails.com. Elevation gain on this hike is 4,222 feet. Try this trail from March to October, and bring your dog along. 

Lakes of the Clouds

Lakes of the Clouds is a 10.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking and backpacking and is best used from April until December. You can bring your dog, but it must be kept on leash.

South Colony Lakes 

South Colony Lakes Trail is a 8.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail that features a lake. It’s rated as difficult per AllTrails.com, and you can bring your dog. This trail is best used from March until October.

Lower and Upper Macey Lakes 

Lower and Upper Macey Lakes via Rainbow Trail is a 13.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is used for hiking, camping, fishing, horses and backpacking. Use this trail between June and September. You can bring your dogs and horses on this trail.

Crestone Peak Trail

Crestone Peak Trail is a 13.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips and backpacking and is best used from June until October.
