Teller County Highlights

Here’s a small sample of some of Teller County’s events:

  • Cripple Creek Ice Festival occurs each February. Ice sculptors carve ice into beautiful works of art based on the festival’s theme. Celebrate this annual event with vendors, refreshments, an ice slide and arts festival.

  • Donkey Derby Days occurs in Cripple Creek each June, and has for nearly 90 years. People line up downtown to watch a race inspired by the town’s resident donkey herd, believed to be distant relatives of the original donkeys from the town’s Gold Rush days. Enjoy games, live entertainment, heritage competitions and even baby donkeys!

  • Butte Theater, built in 1896, has received a variety of makeovers and now has a resident professional company to offer melodramas to Cripple Creek.

  • Cripple Creek Heritage and Information Center displays multiple hands-on exhibits that combine interactive technology with tactile, audio and video techniques to immerse visitors in the history of Cripple Creek. They also organize the Once Upon a Time in the West Art Show each year to show off Western and Native American artistry in the area.

  • Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument features a diverse collection of petrified trees and fossils spread across many acres west of Pikes Peak.

  • If you like gambling, head to Cripple Creek to visit 12 casinos for table games, slots and off-track betting.

  • Cripple Creek celebrates July 4th in a big way with live bands, food vendors, a beer garden and epic fireworks.

  • Gold Rush Days in Victor celebrates the town’s mining history with street vendors, old fashioned kid activities and mining games.

  • Learn about Victor’s mining history and pan for gold at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum
